Mona Lisa Smiles Through LED Lighting Retrofit

Speaking of museums, the largest museum in the world, The Louvre, is now using LED lighting to light the Mona Lisa painting. The museum’s curators wanted to reduce their energy costs as well as comply with new European regulations that limit the use of older lighting technology. The Louvre first added LED lighting in exterior applications in 2011. They spent months working with lighting technicians to retrofit the existing interior lights to more energy efficient LED lighting. The energy savings are important- reported to be a 60% savings from previous interior lighting expenses. But lighting one of the most famous paintings in the world was a challenge. The solution was a custom fixture with 32 LED lamps that also protects the Mona Lisa from UV and Infrared energy.

RedBird LED Tube Lights Lighting Mount Everest Base Camp

RedBird LED recently announced that their LED Tubes lights were used to light a medical facility at another world famous location-Mount Everest. The Xtreme Everest 2 location at the Mt. Everest High Base Camp required rugged, energy efficient lighting that could perform well in extremely cold temperatures. The solution was RedBird Cardinal Vapor tight LED Luminaires, PG3-66W-50K-132. They provide one of the highest lumens/dollar and lumens/watt of any LED lighting fixture. Xtreme Everest not only needed LED tube lights that would operate in harsh conditions, they also had to conserve as much energy as possible. The only power available to them is from their gasoline generators running on fuel flown in by helicopters. Cardinal LED Tube lights deliver 7,000 lumens of light, yet only draw 66 watts.
